Model by Jennifer Williams who also provided the instructional diagrams.

This sample was worked in size 20 thread and measures 3.6" inches (92 mm) in diameter.

If working in a finer or coarser thread, the length of the spaces between the rings will need to be adjusted.

Row 1
First inward facing ring:
Ring: 5 - (long picot) 5 clr leave a bare thread space of 3/16 th inch (.5 cm)
First outward facing ring:
Outer ring: 5 - 5 clr leave a bare thread space of 3/16 th inch (.5 cm)
*Next inward facing: 5, + (join to long picot) 5 leave bare thread space of 3/16 th inch (.5 cm)
Next outer facing: 5 - 5 clr leave a space of 3/16 th inch (.5 cm)
Repeat from * 4 times more, then secure ends in the first inward facing ring.

Row 2
Ring: 5 - 5 clr pass the needle through the picot of an outer ring on row 1.
Leave a space in the thread of 3/8th inch (1 cm)
Ring: 5 - 5 clr Leave a space in the thread of 3/8th inch (1 cm)
Repeat from the beginning of the row 5 times more

Row 3
Ring: 4 - 1 - 5 clr
Ring: 5 + (join to one of the rings on row 2) 5 clr
Ring: 5 - 1 - 4 clr Leave a space in the thread of 3/8th inch (1 cm)
Ring: 4 + (join to previous ring )1 - 1 - 4 clr
Leave a space in the thread of 3/8th inch (1 cm)
Ring: 4 + (join to previous ring) 1 - 1 - 4 clr
Leave a space in the thread of 3/8th inch (1 cm)
Ring: 4 + (join to previous ring )1 - 1 - 4
Leave a space in the thread of 3/8th inch (1 cm)
Repeat from the beginning of the row 11 times more joining to adjacent rings on each repeat. Finish off ends and block and stiffen as required.

First half stitch

This ring was begun using the first half stitch.


This ring was begun in the Riego style using the second half stitch first.

Here you can see the join, the half stitch and the full double stitch


This is not a true join; the needle is simply put through a handy picot and the work continues
