Your Bowling Self-Esteem
Once you have your self-esteem on a firm footing, you'll see that you will have a strong mental game and will be an "optimist" rather than a "pessimist."

gACTIONh JACKSON: A PRO BOWLER WHO ACTS, OR AN ACTOR WHO BOWLS?
Bowling fans across America may be more familiar with veteran PBA West Region competitor J.T. gActionh Jackson than they realize.
Thatfs because Jackson is a professional actor who bowls. Or, depending on how you look at it, a professional bowler who also has a successful acting career.
The 35-year-old Sherman Oaks, Calif., resident who bowled in the PBA Tournament of Champions as a PBA West Region title winner, has been featured in numerous national television commercials and television series. He currently is appearing in commercials for Honda and computer company CDW with retired NBA star Charles Barkley.
He formerly was featured prominently in UPSf gLogisticsh campaign where he played the part of a warehouse manager. Other appearances have included feature roles in commercials for Smyrnoff, Dennyfs, Turbo Tax, Discover Credit Card and Sonic.
Hefll also be appearing in an independent film called gBud Zh which opens in selected theatres on Friday, April 13.
While more movie and television work will be in his future, his focus this week was on the TOC.
gI was lost last year, but Ifm constantly learning,h the eight-year PBA member said. gMy main focus lately has been learning more about the layouts for drilling. Ifm also continually working on my arsenal of equipment so I can take advantage of the best times of when to use plastic, urethane or resin.h
After a disappointing opening round in which he averaged 187, Jackson used his learning skills to improve his overall average to 202 after the second block. It wasnft enough to make the cut, but it was a significant step forward for a player who has bowled for less than 10 years.
Jackson began bowling in 2003 when he, comedian Kevin Hart and several other comedians went bowling for a night of fun which quickly turned into some gaction bowlingh for $20 a frame. From that point, he earned his nickname and bowling became a passion which resulted in his first PBA regional title in 2010. (Hart recently bowled in the Chris Paul PBA Celebrity Invitational and is starring in the new movie, gHow to Think Like a Man.h)

œ Tommy Jones of Simpsonville, S.C., was knocked out of the PBA Tournament of Champions before it started because of a neck injury. Jones is a 13-time PBA Tour title winner who won the TOC in 2007.
œ PBA Hall of Famer and charter member Carmen Salvino of Chicago, the oldest player ever to bowl in the TOC at age 78, caused some excitement when he charged out of the gate with a 270 first game in the Elite Field qualifying Tuesday.
REGIONAL ROUNDUP: GALLAGHER CONVERTS NON-CHAMPIONS WIN AS TOC ENTRY
Kevin Gallagher of Torrance, Calif., earned his first shot at the PBA Tournament of Champions title when he won the PBA West Region Non-Champions singles event at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas on Friday, April 6, and immediately used a portion of his $1,500 first prize to enter the TOC.
Gallagher defeated Dwight Burns of Tucson, Ariz., 183-156, to win the non-champion singles event. He then finished 26th in the TOCfs Champions Field, missing the cut to the Elite Field by five spots.
The non-championsf weekend at South Point also served as a tune-up for some other TOC competitors. PBA Tour exempt player Mike DeVaney of Murrieta, Calif., teamed up with Steven Smith of San Diego to defeat fellow exempt player Dino Castillo of Carrollton, Texas. and Kyle King of Glendale, Ariz., 460-417, to win the PBA West Region Member/Non-Member Doubles presented by Storm title at South Point on Sunday. DeVaney and Smith split a $4,000 first prize.
Also over Easter weekend, Robert Klann of San Antonio, Texas, defeated amateur Jay Nephew of Houston, 215-210, to win the PBA Southwest Region Houston Etonic Challenge at Del Mar Lanes in Houston, Texas. The Southwest Regionfs PBA Challenge events are limited to PBA members not eligible for the PBA Tournament of Champions, and amateurs who have never won a PBA event.
Klann, who recently took advantage of the new PBA 24 membership offer for bowlers ages 24 and younger, earned $2,000 along with his first PBA title.
Following the Tournament of Champions, which concludes the PBA Tourfs regular-season schedule, the PBA Regional program kicks into high gear. Over the April 13-15 weekend, regionals are scheduled for Galion, Ohio, and Shawnee, Okla. The PBA South Region will host senior events in North Fort Meyers, Fla., and Tampa leading into the start of the 2012 PBA Senior Tour season at Sun Bowl in The Villages, Fla. The PBA Senior Sun Bowl in the Villages presented by Storm is set for April 21-24.
Also in April, the PBA West/Northwest Regions make their annual trek to Hawaii, and additional regionals are set for Catskill, N.Y.; Grove City, Ohio, and San Antonio, Texas.
