Hello Tatters!

This week I had such a dilemma trying to decide which new tatting book I would review for you. The post brought me, not one , not two , but three brand new tatting books! I am the luckiest tatter in the world. Such largess from the today's tatting designers is so kind, so thoughtful.

The first book is from a long time tatter and friend, Lyn Morton of the UK. The new book is "The Art of Tatting Jewelry, Exquisite Lace and Bead Designs." The second book to arrive came from Japan. It was Yuuko Terachi's 4th volume in her series "Art 3-D Tatting." And then a book from France! It was "My Humble Lesson in Shuttle Tatting" by a new friend Lilas Joublot of "Lilas Lace" online.

It will take a few days to study these new books and prepare book reviews for all three. But I was so excited I wanted to let you know about them right away.

First, Lyn's book is 110 pages, paper bound.

Many traditional style patterns tatted in lovely colored threads and in metallic threads, too. All of the patterns are practically encrusted with beads.

You will recall many of her previous books.:

Introducing Vol. 4 of Art 3D Tatting by Japanese Tatting Designer, Yuuko Terachi

Although Yuuko's first book had only Japanese text, vol. 4 as with vol. 2, volume 3 all have Japanese and English text. Full color photography for these tatted pieces of jewelry and clear diagram enhanced photo tutorials are a real benefit.

The technique of "Yuuko's Push-Out Trick" plays a huge part in these design. The cover design features the Weeping Plum Blossom on the bottom left corner. There are 21 steps to make these flowers and it is so worthwhile in the end. Gorgeous.

And third is Lilas' book. It is bilingual French-English. Paper bound, size A4, it is has 43 pages. It has terrific designs and detailed instructions, but, read on! It is has QR codes! Hmmm, well, I didn't know what a QR code was either but it is great. First, QR = quick response barcode, but the design image is not a bar at all, it is a square box with all kinds of black squiggles in it. And your every day camera phone can scan it and read it at once.

Now, why does Lilas have QR codes in the book? We are supposed to scan it and the link it presents takes us to a detailed tutorial on the pattern or technique on that page. Wow!

This has been so much excitement, I need a cup of tea and a shuttle to wind to calm down.

Until next time, happy tatting.
