Autism Spectrum Disorders

May 13 2006 Autism Spectrum Disorders Newsletter

Greetings Everyone and Happy Mother's Day to the Moms ~

It has been another busy week here for us. It is getting harder to keep Nicholas occupied while at the Floor Time sessions on Thursday and Friday. They are 85 minutes long and will be getting longer as time goes on since we are allocated more time, but Matthew cannot toletate longer sessions at the moment.

I found a nice Drawing Cat book at Michael's last week, a cat notebook and a cat and dog trivia book. He finished the trivia book Thursday and is using the cate notebook as an observation diary on a stray female cat that has taken residence in our yard. He was so happy to see the Friskies I bought for the cat since he loves their commercials.

At any time while out and about Nicholas will inform me he loves cats, like I didn't already know. Thank goodness I am allergic to them, because otherwise he would not sleep having one in the house.

Matthew's IEP is in one month and still no progress report for the two first periods on Adaptive PE. Matthew should be receiving two 30 minute sessions of Speech and also for APE, but is only getting one session per week. I am going to write a letter requesting service logs prior to the IEP and will be making certain compensatory time is given for these missed sessions. I am also not pleased really with the Speech goal since it relates to the classroom and does not cover what goes on in the session.

I am going to try to visit Sizzler one afternoon next week for a steak lunch - my Mother's Day gift. I received a nice compilation of photos of Matthew at school while Nicholas drew and painted his favorite memory on poster board, which turned out to be our visit to Sea World last year. It does not look like Matthew or I made it into the photo, only Nicholas and a Dolphin.
