Tatting

May 25 2007 Tatting Newsletter

Hello and how are you on this May day? Where I’m at, in the NW corner or the USA it’s a beautiful day. The sun is shining, the birds are whistling and you can almost hear the grass growing. I see little wild flowers pushing their way up amongst the clover out in the front yard.

You may ask what this has to do with tatting. After all, this is a tatting newsletter, right? My greeting may seem to be unrelated and irrelevant, but when I think of the flowers, trees and other shapes of nature I’m reminded of the different things that are duplicated in our crafts; in particular, tatting. We imitate these shapes with our chains, rings and picots.

This week’s article is about picots. You’ll read about the methods I use for making all the picots, in a given project, the same size. Each picot of a ring can either be the same size or they can be mixed. But, this article is about making your picots all uniform and an easy way to do it. Of course, this is only one way to do so.

I’d love to hear, in the forums, what method you use for this purpose. I’ll be posting a question and I’d love to hear a response from each of you. Please tell me if you have a different way to keep your picots all the same size. Explain to us how you do this. In this manner we can teach each other a different way of doing something we’ve been doing all along.

As the tatting site is new to me, you’ll find that a lot of the links are still those of the previous editor. Though Gillian has done a wonderful job with her articles, newsletters, games and posts, it is now my turn to put a bit of ‘me’ into the BellaOnline Tatting site. Over a period of time, I’ll be adding to the articles and adding my own information and in my own unique style. I’ll soon be adding games, posting questions in the forums and adding polls so that we’ll get to know each other. The long and short of it is that the more you put into it; the more you’ll get out of it.

I plan to give it my very best so I’m expecting to get the best right back. I hope you will too.
