Greetings from the tornado filled land of Oz!

This has been a bit of a wild week weather-wise. Today, I spent an hour huddled with my students waiting for the sirens to turn off. The sirens would stop for a while, then off they'd go again. I was a bit discombobulated when I got home tonight! This week's article uses research findings to help students achieve more in math. Here's a sneak peak.

Why do students concentrate so well on video games and not so hotsy on multiplication facts? Brain research has shown that a student with ADD who is not taking medication needs a large reward to shut off the brain circuit that allows the mind to wander.

Help your student make the switch from having a mind that is on a walkabout when multiplication facts are mentioned to having focused attention. Improve your student’s ability to do multi-step, higher level math. Research says to use incentives to help your student switch on his attention circuit.

One incentive can be making the memorization of math facts into a game with prizes. Multiplication Revelation is the game of the week. Learn how to help your student improve his math.

Have a blessed week, and stay away from tornadoes!
