Que Pasa? (What’s Happening?)

Summer is here… It’s Memorial Day Weekend. Time for vacations to begin, Yipee!

We make our plans to find places that are cool. I mean cool in temperature. Living within a few hours of San Diego keeps the Interstate between Phoenix and the coast busy every Saturday. It’s like a weekly migration. The beach rental units are on a weekly basis and almost every one of them rent Sat. to Sat. So if you’re on Interstate 8, crossing Arizona, you will see many trucks, SUV’s and mini-vans full of kids, bikes and boogie boards headed for the coast. Sometimes Dad gets to go, but often it will just be mom and the kids. For a mere $2000 (not including food, gas and cleaning fees) you can rent a two bedroom – one bath condo with a kitchen on the beach. Seems extravagant, but when the temperature starts bouncing around 120 degrees, that dollar figure gets a little less important.

The highways and parking lots start to shimmer with heat waves and that is the time to go seek water. Any water will do. We have a few nice lakes for swimming and boating in our area. Jet skis are a very big deal in this area. The mighty Colorado River… well it’s a trickle in our area is kept coolish by the influx of Gila River water. All the local public pools are open and the life guards are working on their tans.
