The lane to farm was dripping in wisteria blossoms. Lined by daffodils and paper-white narcissus it had a dainty ground cover of purple flowers. The viburnum tree had so many bright snowball blossoms the stems were dragging the ground. Daffodils have faded now but the peonies in all their reds and pinks and peach colors are opening their blossoms slowly. And a few brave tulips have poked up.

And, although colorless now, the great crops of milk weed plants in the pollination fields will provide a glorious crowd of monarch butterflies in summer.

But while I am enjoying the nature around me others down the lane are thinking about graduation and marriage ceremonies. And some are waiting for those letters of college acceptance. Such excitement in the month of May.
PatternThere is an interesting story behind this bridal edging. It was designed by a gentleman ob/gyn doctor who used to sit in on the Online Tatting Class while waiting for the patient's labor to progress to the stage where he was able to be useful. We all rejoiced in the happy outcomes. But the poor fellow had to give us his ob/gyn practice when the insurance premiums became more that his income. That has happened to many of us I believe. But it shows again how helpful tatting can be to stress management.
Let's make a quick review of this pattern which is based on very traditional tatting ideas. Note that the placement of the beads on the central ring of the motif may indeed be varied in position and in number. And the edging forms its own header for attachment to cloth or veil, The repeating motif is a cloverleaf centered on two support rings. Its chain not only travels to the next motif but with a reversal of the work it throws off twin rings for the header.

Using one shuttle & ball, string small beads on the ball thread before winding the shuttle. For directional tatting (for the all front/back side look): directions in black = 1st half -> 2nd half of ds, but directions in red = 2nd half -> 1st half of the ds.
