MIKE FAGAN WINS EUROPEAN TOUR EVENT IN MUNICH
Four-time PBA champion and PBA Player of the Year contender Mike Fagan of Dallas defeated two-time WTBA world champion Clara Guerrero of Colombia, 469-446, to win the two-game title match in the third Track Dream Bowl Palace Open on April 29 in Munich, Germany.

For Fagan, the European Bowling Tour title was the fifth of his career and the second of 2012. He also won the Brunswick Euro Challenge in France in March, an event which also gave him a PBA Tour title as part of a new alliance between the PBA and the World Tenpin Bowling Association.

In the wake of the 2011 PBA World Series of Bowling where international players won seven of eight titles awarded, American PBA players have won four of the first seven European Bowling Tour titles awarded in 2012.

In the semifinal round, Guerrero eliminated England’s Stuart Williams, who won his first PBA Tour title in the 2011 WSOB Bayer Viper Open, 476-441, while Fagan ousted PBA Tournament of Champions winner Sean Rash of Montgomery, Ill., 502-425. PBA Tour title winners Dom Barrett, England, and Mika Koivuniemi, Hartland, Mich., were eliminated in the quarterfinal round.

HALL OF FAMER MARK ROTH TO ASSIST WITH STROKE FUNDRAISER

Upstate University Hospital played a key role in Roth’s extensive rehabilitation.

“(Mark) has come a long way, but it’s been a lot of work,” said his wife, Denise.

Proceeds from the fundraising event will help support patient and family education programs, direct patient care needs and community awareness programs. Entry fee for Strikes Against Stroke is $15 for stroke survivors; $20 for children under 12; and $30 for the general public. To register, call 315-464-8668. Registration is also available at the door the day of the event.

REGIONAL ROUNDUP: BAER WINS PBA EAST REGION’S CHAMELEON OPEN

During the coming months, the East Region will also conduct Cheetah, Scorpion and Viper championship events. In addition, the player who earns the most competition points for all four animal pattern tournaments also will win a berth in the World Series of Bowling.

In the PBA Midwest Region, Nathan Michalowski of Burlington, Wis., defeated Don Breeden of Clive, Iowa, by 39 pins to win his first PBA Regional title in the Dutler’s Bowl Open presented by Etonic at Dutler’s Bowl in Mankato, Minn., Sunday. In the PBA West/Northwest, Chris Warren continued his torrid pace, posting a 12-4 match play record and a 24-game total of 5,471 pins Sunday to win the PBA West/Northwest Regions Earl Anthony Memorial at Earl Anthony’s Dublin Bowl in Dublin, Calif. Warren, who earned $2,500 along with his 36th career PBA Regional title, defeated Scott Boyle of Salida, Calif., by 119 pins.

This weekend includes the joint PBA Southwest/Midwest Junction City (Kan.) Hammer Open at Junction City Bowl, plus the PBA East Region’s King Pin Lanes Open presented by Brunswick in Rome, N.Y.
