We might be seeing Dawn French in a period drama for the Beeb, in an attempt to boost Sunday night ratings. French will play the lead in an adaptation of Flora Thompson's Lark Rise to Candleford, depicting life in a nineteenth century village. Her Vicar of Dibley finale drew 12 million plus viewers over Christmas.

Debra Stephenson (formerly Frankie Baldwin on Corrie) is set to join Holby City as consultant Kristen Montgomery in the BBC1 hospital drama. Her first scenes will be screened in August.

Filming in Bristol right now is a hot new series for BBC One, Mistresses. Featuring a quartet of the UK's hottest actresses, Sarah Parish, Orla Brady, Sharon Small and Shelley Conn, the show promises to be a modern and sophisticated take on life, love and relationships. We'll have to wait until 2008 to see it though...

New Tricks will return for a fifth series later this year on BBC One. Strong viewing figures and domination of the Monday night time slot have proven the unconventional cop show a big hit. The show, featuring grumpy retired policemen, played by Dennis Waterman, Alun Armstrong and James Bolam cracking cold cases, is currently airing on PBS stations in the U.S.

Catch The Time of Your Life on ITV1, 18 June at 9pm. Genevieve O’Reilly stars as a woman who has spent most of her adult life comatose. This drama examines the shockwaves as she awakens....
