Attention Deficit Disorder

Here's the latest article from the Attention Deficit Disorder site at BellaOnline.com.

Greetings from the Land of Oz!

The tornadoes seem to be calming down here in Kansas. The school year is winding down, too. There will be more time to work on the ADD site as I prepare for next school year. Also, there's time to reflect about what works well with students. Years of working with students who have ADD convinces me that rewards, both tangible and intangible can be important teaching tools.

Time after time, I hear people talking about rewarding children. Many of them say, “That isn’t how it is in the real world. Nobody is going to reward them for doing what’s expected of them. How can they learn how to do things by themselves if they are always getting these little rewards?” Many people are reluctant to provide rewards for children, since they feel that kids who are rewarded don't understand how the real world works.

Would you believe that there’s a biological reason to use rewards with kids who have ADD? See what recent research from the University of Nottingham suggests about rewards and Attention Deficit Disorder.

What are your feelings about rewards? What adult rewards do you get? Come to the forum and let us know!

Have a blessed week!
Connie
