Journal Writing and Attention Deficit Disorder PLUS BONUS ARTICLE to be featured on 6/30/12 Fireworks and Attention Deficit Disorder
Greetings from the Land of OZ!
Summer is rushing onward, and it is hot in Kansas. We hit 104 degrees F. yesterday, and this is just the start. Our traditionally warmer weather is still to come. I'm going to spend some time indoors doing journaling and reflecting on what parts of my life are impacted by my ADD. That impact isn't always a negative thing. While my focus tends to come and go, well...mainly it goes, my persistence to finish things is amazing. It just takes me a bit longer than some other people. Perhaps that's why I got the first college degree at age 42!
Writing a journal is a worthwhile activity in itself. As a tool for helping me live a good life with Attention Deficit Disorder, it is valuable.

This Bonus Article is a piece that I wanted to write last year. Fireworks can be lovely to watch, and they are one of the high points of my year. However, the damage that they can cause when they are inattentively used can be life-changing.
Fireworks and Attention Deficit Disorder
Impulsivity and inattention are hallmarks of Attention Deficit Disorder. When you combine these traits with fireworks, you have an explosive and dangerous combination. Then, factor into this equation the inexperience and feelings of invincibility of childhood and you have a perfect storm for injury.
