I have seen some of the famous Faberge eggs by Carl Faberge, known as the finest goldsmith in his day. I was truly amazed by the precision and craftsmanship of his workshop. In Washington, D.C., I visited the Hillwood Museum and Gardens of Marjorie Merriweather Post. Her estate has a few Faberge eggs which may be out on loan at the time of your visit. It would still be a worthwhile visit to the home of the heir of Post cereal. At the Forbes magazine building in New York City, there is a splendid collection of Faberge eggs, as well as miniature soldiers. This is all exhibited on the ground floor, free of charge. I was thrilled to be able to walk about at my own leisure, almost in total solitude. When visiting, be sure to check out the lavatory. Seriously, they have faucets and hardware with the art deco design. It is truly a hidden treasure in New York. I have not yet visited the British Royal Collection in the U.K., but it is said to house the largest intact collection of Faberge items in the world, with approximately 600 pieces.
