Classroom Strategies That Work for ADD

Greetings from the Land of OZ!

It's summer time in the Northern Hemisphere, but I don't want our minds to wander too far away from the upcoming school year. Summer is a time to lay back and enjoy a less-structured time, but it is also time to get ready for a new school year. I read some research this week that frustrated me. The researchers, after studying classroom strategies, decided that the strategies did work, but the implementation was so different in various settings, they couldn't figure out what worked best. Well, I don't think that it's a secret for any of us that it varies from child to child and even from day to day!

Children with Attention Deficit Disorder are often given medication to help with focus and behavior in the classroom. Researchers concluded that non-pharmaceutical interventions in a school setting can help kids with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder be supported in the classroom.

There are some strategies that I've developed over the past 20 years that are highly successful with a broad range of kids. I listed some of them toward the end of the article. Check out the Related Links for other good ideas.
