Greetings Everyone -
It certainly is turning into a record hot summer all across the country. I could not imagine being without power during this season and have decided when next income tax return arrives I am getting a generator, to be prepared. When I went to bed it was 85 degrees and I awoke to 77 degrees.
I am sharing two articles from awhile ago that have to do with safety and preparedness. I saw on CNN Headline News this morning a quick mention of a four year old autistic boy who was killed by a car when he got out of his house.
There is also the Perris, CA story of the mother who called police to help with her 21 year old. She felt she should follow through and since she mentioned calling the police and had successfully had them at her house months earlier, she would do it again. This time it ended tragically, makes me wonder if I would ever call them and my response at the moment is no way. Then there is the story out of Utah where the neighbors posted an offensive sign regarding a young teen on the spectrum.
There is much to be done in the way of spreading awareness within the commuities we work and reside. Those that enter our homes need to be schooled in how to communicate with those on the spectrum and how to handle situations that are out of control where we as parents need assistance and rely on other professions to help us.
On the positive side the August issue of Reader's Digest has a nice story about a ten year old boy who has autism. On Monday, July 31st the Today Show will have a segment on Sensory Processing Disorder with the Executive Director of Kid Foundation. See http://www.kidfoundation.org for more details on the time frame of this interview.
