WEBER IMPROVES CAREER PBA REGIONAL TITLES RECORD TO 46
Pete Weber of St Ann, Mo., defeated Chris Loschetter of Avon, Ohio, 216-199, to win the joint PBA Midwest/Central Region Illinois Valley Classic at Illinois Valley Super Bowl in Peru, Ill. on July 24, improving Weber’s all-time record for most PBA Regional titles won to 46.

The win also was the fifth time in six years that Weber has won at Illinois Valley Super Bowl, and in the year he lost, he finished second. Weber also earned $3,800.

Danny Wiseman of Baltimore defeated Tommy Gollick of Oberlin, Pa., 289-229, to win his ninth career PBA Regional title and a $2,700 first prize in the PBA East Region Cap Card Open at Cedar Lanes in Lebanon, Pa., on July 24.

Kip Roberts of Glennallen, Va., went 12-4 in match play to advance for fifth place after qualifying and record a 60-pin victory over Dick Allen of Columbia, S.C. in the PBA South Region Fayetteville Open at LaFayette Lanes Sunday. Roberts, who finished the 24-game event with 5,716 pins including match play bonus pins, earned his 12th career regional title and a $2,500 prize.

In Reno, Nev., Jeff Frankos of Daly City, Calif. and Terry Leong of Henderson Nev., teamed up to defeat Kerry Painter of Henderson, Nev. and Clay Rees of Riverton, Utah, 405-404, to win the PBA West\Northwest Region Sands Regency Doubles at High Sierra Lanes on Sunday. It was the first doubles victory for the pair who shared a $4,000 prize.

Next weekend’s round of PBA Regional events includes: the PBA East Region Appletree Classic at Mid-County Lanes in Middletown, Pa. (where a field of more than 150 players is expected to compete for the $10,000 first prize); the PBA South Region Spring Hill (Fla.) Open at Spring Hills Lanes; a joint PBA Midwest/Central Region Thunderbowl Open presented by Dragon Palace in Mokena, Ill.; and the PBA West Region Ebonite Open at Del Rosa Lanes in San Bernardino, Calif.

TEEN MASTERS COVERAGE ON XTRA FRAME BEGINS SUNDAY
Xtra Frame coverage of the Teen Masters from New Jersey (preliminary rounds) and New York, gets underway Sunday, July 31, and continues through Thursday, Aug. 4, concluding with the High School Girls and Boys, Under 14 Girls and Boys, and High School Grand Championship matches from Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Station in New York City.

A special one-time $5 subscription to Xtra Frame will be available until Aug. 8 which will give all subscribers a chance to watch Teen Masters coverage, and access archived Xtra Frame content during the special-offer period.

Also available at no cost on Xtra Frame is a continuing series of three-minute video features on a variety of topics, including this week’s eighth and final segment “The Sport: what do you tell people who say bowling isn't a sport?” The entire series is available on demand on Xtra Frame.

Sweden’s Martin Larsen took advantage of four consecutive open frames – including a pair of “big four” splits – to defeat PBA Player of the Year Mika Koivuniemi, 203-146, in the title match of the 33rd Cuitat de Barcelona in Catalonia on July 17. Larsen, who has qualified to compete as a PBA Tour exempt player during the 2011-12 season, earned €6,000.

Also on July 17, former PBA Tour exempt player Robert Smith won his second Asian title of the year, defeated Shaker Al Hassan of UAE, 216-208, for a US$7,000 prize in the 37th Hong Kong International Open. Smith, a seven-time PBA Tour titlist, now resides in Hong Kong.

Walter Ray Williams Jr. is taking the scenic route from his home in Ocala, Fla., to the USBC Senior Masters in Columbus, Ohio, Aug. 1-5. The nine-time world horseshoe pitching champion is en route to the World Horseshoe Pitching Championships in Monroe, La., but he made a pit stop in Foley, Ala., over the weekend where he conducted an instructional clinic at Gulf Bowl. At the conclusion of the horseshoe competition, Williams will jump into his motorhome and make the 850-mile drive north to Columbus. He’ll then remain on the road for the final five PBA Senior Tour events of the year.
