Just a reminder! The deadline is fast approaching. Please send in your tatting decorated items for the 2016 Tatting Scholarships Fundraiser to The Palmetto Tatters Guild, P.O. Box 1597, Lexington, SC 29071. Your help makes the scholarship fund raiser a success!
Our theme for this year is the Hope Chest. Traditionally, the hope chest, also known as dowry chest, cedar chest, bottom drawer or glory box, contains numerous items prepared for setting up a new household. Although today's modern woman may purchase anything necessary, there is such a special feeling about items handmade and prepared especially for the event. Our chest will have items for the bridal shower, the wedding, setting up house and for baby.
You may select any item to decorate with tatting from the following ideas, or share a special idea with us. It would be great to include special gifts traditionally used in different cultures around the world not just USA, too.
Bridal shower or wedding favors such as a votive candle wrapped in tulle and tied with ribbon with hearts on the ends of the ribbon or a larger heart on the glass.
Decorated hairpins for bridesmaids and/or bridal barrettes.
Tatted bracelets with heart charms or beads.
Wedding AccessoriesConsider a tatted crown or hair piece for the bride or a tatted crown of flowers for the flower girl.
A tatted basket for the flower girl to carry the flower petals in.
A bridal bouquet of tatted flowers and a matching boutonniere.
A ring bearer's pillow edged in tatting with ribbons and little hearts decorating it.
A small prayer book or bible with a cross bookmark for the bride who chooses not to carry flowers.
Tatting edged wedding hanky for the bride, the mother of bride, and mother of bridegroom.
Small bridesmaids' gift bags like sachet bags for goodies bags, candy or to hold the bird seed to sprinkle over the happy couple afterward. (Birdseed is preferred over rice these days.)
A wedding album with a tatting decorated cover.
A guest register book with a tatting decorated cover.
New Household GiftsPillow cases and sheets with tatted trim or tatted initials on them. Hand towels with tatted initials or other tatting trim with matching soap cozie
Bedroom dresser scarves and doilies of tatted lace.
Tablecloths, table runners, place mats, napkins, centerpiece of tatted lace or even a tatted vase for the table
A set of clear glass or acrylic coasters with tatted inserts
A set of tatted figures for decoration or the holiday tree, Mr. & Mrs.
A wedding photo holder with tatted edging.
Baby Shower Gifts such as a petite basket filled with baby items embellished with tatting. Tatted edges on jumpers and night shirts and night gowns and perhaps little tatted animals
A lap blanket with tatted edge (think large size baby yarn needle tatting project.)
The traditional baby bonnet, baby booties and christening gown are perfect gifts also.
No beads on baby items please. Please start now with the planning. Once you have a project in mind please let me know. We don't want to get a lot of the same thing, like the ten toasters in the wedding gifts situation. We will start a list for volunteers. You may tat as many projects as you want.
If you need help finding a project, please go to http://www.georgiaseitz.com/2016/2016index.html
And use the search box on the right to search the OTC patterns pages. And if you find a great item or pattern to use for the project please share it with us.
