Faggoting & Tatting on Collar

This is part four of the pattern which began last June 27, 2019.

The term faggoting is used for an embroidery stitch which joins across an open space between pieces of fabric, lace edging, insertions, entredeux, and braids. It may be plain cross stitch in appearance or fancy.

This collar by Norma Benporath will require planning and concentration. It is a vintage public domain pattern.

The Australasian (Melbourne, Vic. : 1864 - 1946), Saturday 16 February 1935, page 14. Designed for "The Australasian" by Norma Benporath

But before we tat, please review the previous rows.

After you have tatted a sufficient number of these oval-shaped motifs, do a test fit laying them out next to the last braid segment. If there are sufficient motifs then proceed to attach them to the braid.

You may recall that there was a note about joining these tatted motifs are they are tatted. Please consider this before you complete the first motif.

To join the Motifs
Tat the foundation 4-leaf clover and the first ring of the next motif as before which is joined to the 4th ring of the clover with a chain.
CH 3 - 3 - 3 - 3 + (join to 4th picot of 4th corner chain of the last motif) 3 + (join to the 5th picot of the same chain) 3 rw. Continue with a ring as before.
CH 6 + (join to the picot of next chain of the last motif) 6 rw
Repeat with a ring as before.
CH 3 - 3 + (join to the 7th picot of the next corner chain of the last motif) 3 + (join to the 6th picot of the same chain) 3 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 3 rw and finish as before.
Tack them down and then sew these motifs to the last row of bias binding.
Please note that the last row of tatted edging will be sewn with faggoting stitch directly to the tatting with no braid in between.

Also please consider the description of the last chain... it was to be joined to the next "corner" chain. Well, my motif was oval and I do not see any corners in it. I am really looking forward to your feedback on this one.
One more part go to.

PS After I finished writing this I was ready for a break. Right now I have neither thread nor shuttle in my hands. Instead, I have in hand a delicious cup of tea, a milk chai, a tiny cookie and the new issue of The Ring of Tatters newsletter. So full of patterns and guild doings, a call for pen pals and best of all, a Round Robin challenge!
