If you haven't stopped by the main site lately, you're missing out on reviews again. The July reviews include: Dangerous Desires, The Search, The Tutor, Unspeakable, and Give Me a Texas Ranger. And the first of the August reviews are up with Burning Up, and Veil of Night. I've got a few more waiting to share with you, and plenty more still to read before the month is over.
For the writers among us, just a couple items this time out.... There are only a few weeks left to get registered for the fabulous annual conference that New Jersey Romance Writers host each October. I'm hoping to get there myself this year, and there is a terrific line-up of speakers.
Also, if you haven't been paying much attention to the publishing news, Dorchester Publishing has announced some changes to the way they will produce books, eliminating their mass market lines in favor of electronic versions beginning next month, and with some of those titles going later to trade paperback format a number of months later. You can find more info on this here, and here. A lot of authors are blogging about it as well. For me, as a reader, this makes me very sad, as there are authors whose books from Dorchester I've enjoyed very much, but I personally do not want to read e-books. I'm hoping some of them find new publishing homes where their books will continue in traditional paperback formats. As a bookseller, which I am in my offline life, this makes me even sadder, as I now have to try to explain this to my faithful romance readers, many of whom do not have the ability or interest to deal with electronic reading. I know there have been a number of rumors floating around about Dorchester for the past several months, but haven't heard anything official from them, but the stories I have heard from authors and others in the industry make this sound as if it might be do or die for Dorchester. That would be a terrible shame, for the romance industry to lose such someone who has been such a staunch supporter of our genre for so long. Hopefully they can get back to mass market publishing, so I, and my romance reading friends, can continue to read some of our favorite authors.
If you haven't stopped by the forum lately, you may not have seen some of the quickie reviews that I post there, as well as general book release announcements, not to mention the ARC giveaways. I haven't yet done the August giveaway, so now might be a good time to get there and get registered so you can participate when I get the August giveaway details posted. You may also want to stop by our other forum to talk books, and right now, we have a young lady interested in writing romances who's looking to talk to other readers and writers.
Until next time, happy reading and writing!
