Autism Spectrum Disorders

August 13 2006 Autism Spectrum Disorders Newsletter

Greetings Everyone -

Well I would like to say that I took a weekend off since there was no newsletter last week, but my AT&T connection was off and on every fifteen minutes, plus my mouse was not working.

Finished with camp this past week, spent 45 minutes with tech support at AT&T and bought a new mouse. Now waiting on new ink so I can start printing some items with the new Boardmaker @ Home software. A review will be forthcoming as soon as I get to print out somethings and I get notice of the price and link to where this can be purchased.

Friday was the last day of CAMP and then we had therapy in the afternoon at home. This coming Friday is Matthew's first day of school, with Nick not starting until Sep 5th. We will be going to the Zoo, PETCO, Border's and the Mall during that time.

This coming Saturday I will be attending the Back to School Conference in Pasadena, CA and going to the session by Temple Grandin and one by Carol Gray. The lunch break is 1.5 hours and I will be hitting the exhibitor booths and sharing an article on the highlights from that - similar to what I did for the CAN resource fair.

Activities Using Picture Cards
Some of the items I have purchased over the years that incorporate picture cards and symbols that aid in teaching skills to the nonverbal autism community.

Here is one I did for the Insurance Site last week -

Be prepared in the event of a dog bite:

I started a group at gather where anyone can write articles, load images, comment and rate articles. They give points for these activities that can be turned into gift cards and if enough money in any given month cash through paypal. http://autismfamilies.gather.com - it is never too early to start thinking about holiday planning.

I have this item called Super Symbols through Icon talk that I really do not need or utilize. I bought it a few years ago on ebay and it sells at the site for $80 new. This is more geared for group activities, a teacher, therapist or facilitator would benefit most from this item.

Let me know if you are interested and we can discuss a price. I would like to give away an item I discuss in the article on activities using picture cards. This is called I Can Get Dressed and is a small story in a binder format that uses picture cards to match each page. Please email me if interested in this book.

Enjoy your week and maybe I will run into you in Pasadena next Saturday.
