Family History Conference in Boston

If you’re like the millions of other Americans interested in tracing their roots then mark your calendar for August 30 to September 2, 2006, for a visit to historic Boston, the city known as the birthplace of American genealogy. The Federation of Genealogical Societies (www.fgs.org) and the New England Historic Genealogical Society (www.newenglandancestors.org) are hosting a spectacular genealogical conference. You don’t need to have a connection to either organization to register. Everyone is welcome!

Something for Everyone
Whether you have ancestry in Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, New York, California, Connecticut, Missouri, or just about any other locality, you’ll find lectures to help you connect with your lost cousins and ancestral homelands. Everyone from the casual online family historian to a dedicated hobbyist will find a topic suited to their interests.

Over 350 sessions for family historians, writers, editors, professional genealogists, lecturers, librarians, archivists, historians, columnists, booksellers, and others are on the four day schedule. For one conference fee you can attend sessions during the entire event. At $185.00 it’s a bargain. Special room rates at the Sheraton Boston add an incentive to attend. Single day registrations are also available.

Sessions cover evaluating data found online, learning more about specific documents, and the libraries, courthouses, and archives where millions of records are housed in the United States, Canada, England, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland, and beyond.

The Hynes Convention Center, located in Boston’s trendy Back Bay will be home to a worldly group of vendors of genealogical software, books (new, old, rare), charts, maps, CDs, DVDs, gadgets, and more. Representatives of historical societies, genealogical societies, libraries, archives, and other places will have booths in the exhibit hall.

Check out the program on the FGS website. Secure online registration makes it fast and easy for you to sign up. The site includes lists of speakers and lecture titles, including the day and time when each is presented. It also includes details on the conference hotel and travel agent.
