Greetings from the Land of OZ!

I hope you had a Happy National Book Lover's Day. I had a wonderful surprise waiting for me in the Reading Forum. I new BellaOnline member posted some wonderful ideas for reading. I want to share KHowe's ideas with you.

"When a children is reluctant to read, try to start out with books that are quite easy to read. Suggestions for making reading fun:

* if it is a picture book, before reading the book go through and talk about the pictures with the child. Glance at the words on the page and try to mention them while discussing the pictures
* take turns reading the pages
* act out the story if appropriate
* record the child reading - practice first
* when praising their reading, select a specific thing that the child did while reading that was good
* be positive even when mistakes are made
* when stuck on a word, give hints" KHowe 8/5/17

You don’t have to stop reading out loud once your child learns to read. Reading together is still important – and fun! You can also encourage the kids to read in their spare time. Here is one family's story about developing a love of reading with their children
