Jan Voskes shared this pattern in 2010 with the Online Tatting Class. It is still available at his personal website, http://tatslife.voskes.eu/en/, and may be shared freely with attribution.

When typed out the directions for this lovely doily ran to 7 pages. This is the style of the directions:
"Second Round
S1:
R: 3-3-3-3-3 Sl RW
B: 3-3-3-3 RW
Form # to # repeat 3 times
#
From * to * repeat 7 times
*
R: 3+(last picot last ring) 3+(third picot last ring))3-3-3 Sl RW
B: 3-3-3-3 RW
*R: 3+(last picot last ring) 3+(third picot last ring))3-3-3 Sl RW"
This is a very common way to express the directions in modern methods. But. Recently a newish tatter wrote in some distress that it was bewildering to them. This is understandable.
We have faced difficulties in reading directions before as in this vintage pattern.

And this is why I feel that a good diagram is worth so much more than written directions alone.
At the time, Jon Yusoff, created a diagram to match this pattern for us.

It is so well done and makes it easier to follow the directions. The only change I would make is to add the double stitch counts.

Enjoy working this one whichever method you use.
