Row 1

*R 3 - 2 - 2 - 3 clr dnrw bts 1/4"
Josephine Ring JR 6 x half stitch (first or second your choice) clr bts 1/4" rw
R 3 - 2 - 2 - 3 clr rw bts 1/4"
Josephine Ring JR 6 x half stitch clr dnrw bts 1/4"
Repeat from * as needed.
Note: Since these rings are unjoined the line of tatting will be twisting. After a few repeats try wrapping the lace around a floss thread holder.

Row 2

This row begins the grouping of the four rings together. The foursome is completed on the return pass. It tats smoothly if you start from where you just ended. If you cut the thread, then join the shuttle thread to a middle picot on the first free ring on the finished piece from row 1. And reverse the direction of tatting this row.




*R 10 vsp 10 clr, bring shuttle thread to the back of the ring, bts JR bts, then join to the vsp dnrw.
R 10 vsp 10 clr, bring shuttle thread to the back of the ring, bts JR bts, then join to the vsp dnrw bts 1/4"
+ (join to middle picot of ring from first row) bts 1/4"

R 3 - 2 - 2 - 3 clr rw bts 1/4"
Josephine Ring JR 6 x half stitch clr dnrw bts 1/4"

Row 3

Change the direction of the work again as you work back joining the large rings into groups of four.

R 10 vsp 10 clr, bring shuttle thread to the back of the ring, bts JR bts, then join to the vsp dnrw. (This now makes 3 joins in that initial vsp.)

R 10 vsp 10 clr, bring shuttle thread to the back of the ring, bts JR bts, then join to the vsp dnrw bts 1/4" (This now makes 4th and last joins in that initial vsp.)


*bts 1/4" Josephine Ring JR 6 x half stitch clr dnrw bts 1/4"
+ join to middle picot of small ring from row 2
bts 1/4" Josephine Ring JR 6 x half stitch clr dnrw bts ½"
Josephine Ring JR 6 x half stitch clr dnrw bts 1/4"
+ join to middle picot of next small ring from row 2
bts 1/4" Josephine Ring JR 6 x half stitch clr dnrw bts ½"

R 10 vsp 10 clr, bring shuttle thread to the back of the ring, bts JR bts, then join to the vsp dnrw. (This now makes 3 joins in that vsp.)

R 10 vsp 10 clr, bring shuttle thread to the back of the ring, bts JR bts, then join to the vsp dnrw bts 1/4" (This now makes 4th and last joins in that vsp.)

* Repeat as needed.

R 3 - 2 + (join to the second large ring from row 3 at its base) 2 - 3 clr dnrw bts 1/4"

R = ring
- = picot
vsp = very small picot
+ = join
Josephine Ring/Knot, JR/JR = a small ring tatted using one half stitch only in multiple repeats.
clr = close ring
bts = a short space of bare thread
