I know many of you are remembering that day so clearly seven years ago...September 11th 2001....I thought we may wish to share our thoughts and also, may you and your families be abundantly blessed this day.
I remember this day so clearly. I was working at a local newspaper in town. my kids were off to school, my oldest son a Senior, my youngest in first grade.
The morning sky was blue and the clouds billowing white, my children were well and the air was fresh and crisp. When I walked into the office, the radio was on and all of the news was vague, something was happening in New York City, a little over an hours drive from us at the time. A plane crashed...but where...in the city...but how.....the tower...what tower, not "the" towers....explosions....where...finally, the twin towers, a plane had crashed into the tower. That whole morning was spent trying to get details, not about what happened but about what was actually in the process of happening. As the day toiled on tragedy continued to flag the airwaves along with the news of a plane that went down outside of the Pentagon.
In slow motion and throughout the day, the week, the month, the truth was made ever so clear and we mourned the sadness of those lost senselessly going about their daily schedules and their work. Heroism of those that risked and gave their lives to save others abounded.
We became united for a time as a country, a family, as Americans and I wonder today if we hold onto that fellowship for each other or have we become cozy again with our complaints. Do we thank God when we wake in the morning for this day that we have been given? Do we understand the price that has been paid for our freedom, this is what Jesus did at the cross for us and this is what has been done by the men and women that defend our nation. For a while we all stood side by side, different races, religions and backgrounds and we prayed, we all prayed.
It is my hope and prayer that we unite and stand up for our brothers and sisters, that every day that we are given, that we can make a small difference for the better in other peoples lives. I know how easy it is to get caught up in what is happening to us but I ask you this, how important would some of it be if we knew that tonight may not come for us?
I love you, my brothers and my sisters and thank you for being a part of my life.
