A NEW COUNTRY HEARD FROM FOR WORLD SERIES OF BOWLING IV
Among the early entries for PBA World Series of Bowling IV, set for Nov. 2-11 at South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas, is Icelandfs Hafthor Hardarson, the first player from his country to enter the annual multi-event international bowling showcase that will kick off the PBA Tourfs 2012-13 season.
Entries received to date by the PBA office include players from nine countries - Denmark, England, Finland, Germany, Mexico, Sweden, the U.S. and Venezuela in addition to Iceland. World Series III drew players from a record 15 countries.
The World Series is open to full PBA members and PBA International members. An all-inclusive entry fee of $750 covers four animal pattern (Cheetah, Scorpion, Viper and Chameleon) championships plus the PBA World Championship. A maximum field of 240 players is expected. PBA REGIONAL ROUNDUP: CIMINELLI WINS EIGHTH REGIONAL TITLE IN WAPAKONETA
Ryan Ciminelli of Cheektowaga, N.Y., defeated Todd Book of Wapakoneta, Ohio, 289-217, to win the second annual PBA Central Region G.A. Wintzer & Son Classic presented by Roto Grip at Astro Lanes in Wapakoneta Sunday.
The title was Ciminellifsfs first of the year in the PBA Central Region and the eighth PBA Regional title of his career. He earned $3,000 along with his title.
œ In Milton, Fla., Kyle Troup of Taylorsville N.C., went 9-3 in match play and finished with a 20-game total of 4,374 pins to win the $1,900 first prize in the PBA South Region Fran Bohlman Memorial Milton Open at Avalon Bowling Center Sunday by eight pins over Richard Langton of Tallahassee, Fla.
Ending an almost-two-year winless dry spell, Troup won his third regional title on the Cheetah pattern, the same pattern used when he last won in November 2010. He clinched the title with a 237-179 win over amateur Wesley Newman of Panama City, Fla., in his position round match.
œ In Howell, N.J., Gary Shultis of Levittown, N.Y., defeated Mike Tryniski of Fulton, N.Y., 280-226, in the championship round to win the PBA East Region Howell Senior Open at Howell Lanes Sunday for his 19th overall regional title and a $1,500 first prize.
Tryniski, a seven-time East Region titlist, was looking for his first senior regional title. En route to his title, Shultis, a former East Region Senior Player of the Year, snuck into the single-elimination match play finals by seven pins. From the No. 16 qualifying position, he eliminated current East Region Senior Player of the Year Sammy Ventura of Syracuse, N.Y.; three-time regional Senior Player of the Year Sam Maccarone of Glassboro, N.J., and two-time PBA Tour winner Kent Wagner of Palmetto, Fla., to reach the title match.
œ In Council Bluffs, Iowa, Robert Gotchall of Lincoln, Neb., defeated Duane Kilts of Cedar Rapids, Iowa., 257-235, in a battle of amateur finalists to win the PBA Midwest Regionfs Thunderbowl Open Sunday.
In the companion Thunderbowl Open senior event, Dave Axon of Bellevue, Neb., defeated Jeff Richgels of Madison, Wis., 268-258, to win his third PBA Regional title.
œ In Euless, Texas, Paul McCordic of Sugar Land, Texas, won six of his eight matches to claim his first PBA Senior Regional title in the PBA Southwest Region Storm Texas Senior Open at AMF Euless Lanes on Sunday. McCordic has won seven standard PBA Regional titles, but hadnft won since 1991.
McCordic chased Ron Boroff of Mansfield, Texas, through qualifying and most of the round-robin match play finals after Boroff started the tournament with a 300 game and held the lead for 19 games. McCordic won his sixth and seventh matches with games of 287 and 247 to finally overtake Boroff going into the position round and then clinched the title with a 238-186 win over PBA Hall of Famer Mark Williams of Beaumont, Texas.
Regional activity over the Sept. 14-16 weekend includes the PBA South Region Red Zone Lounge Open at Thunder Alley in Covington, Va., and the Southwest Regionfs Fort Smith (Ark.) Open presented by Storm at Bowling World.
The Sept. 21-23 schedule features the Southwest Regionfs Odessa (Texas) Challenge for non-champions at Astro Bowl; the Central and Midwest Regions will combine for the Mel Westrich Senior Open at Delphos (Ohio) Recreation Center; the South Region will host the Victory Lanes Senior Open in Mooresville, N.C.; and the Northwest/West Regions will join hands for the Ten Down Lanes Open presented by Track in Roseburg, Ore.
Closing out the month, the Sept. 29-30 schedule features the West/Northwest Regionsf Sands Regency Casino Open and non-champions events at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno; the Central, East and South Regions will combined for the Roger Boone Memorial Senior Classic presented by Fritzfs Pharmacy at Greenbreier Bowling Center in Lewisburg, W.Va.; and the Midwest Region will host standard and senior St. Clair Bowl events sponsored by Allstate Insurance in Fairview Heights, Ill.

PBAfs online bowling channel, Xtra Frame, will return to the National Bowling Stadium in Reno to provide live coverage of the PBA West/Northwest Region Sands Regency Casino Open presented by Roto Grip Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-30. Coverage begins Friday at 10 a.m. with the non-champions event and continues with qualifying at 1 p.m. Saturday followed by the round-robin match play finals starting at 9 a.m. Sunday (all times are Pacific).
