The Online Tatting Class has resumed lessons. All lessons are free. Both regular and beginning tatting classes are available as well as the Design Class offered by Susan Fuller. The beginners class is mentored by long-time tatter and volunteer Cynthia Stevenson.
All classes meet in a private cyber classroom on different days but at the same time 3 PM and/or 8:30 PM ET (New York time.) Regular class meets on Mondays; Design class meets on Tuesdays; Beginners class meets on Thursdays. Both Shuttle and Needle tatting are taught. Needle tatting assistance is from 2:30 PM and 8 PM until the start of the regular class. But all tatters are encouraged to ask questions anytime during the lessons or by email.
To register just email tatting@BellaOnline.com.
This semester (our 19th online!) we are making a list of topics to study. So far we have:
There will be a review of basic understanding of reading and writing both shuttle and needle tatting patterns. It is possible to tat any tatting pattern with either the shuttle or the needle or even just finger tatting. There are a few terms to be learned to accommodate each style.
There will be a review of the many styles of picots. The basic picot now has many, many variations from double to triple, from daisy to Maltese, and from overlapping to knotted. The list is ever-growing.
And the tatters are starting a new 52-week project. This time we are building new patterns for tatted bracelets. To see the 52-earrings project from 2014 look here: https://www.bellaonline.com/subjects/8394.asp
Here is the first diagram. See what you can do with it!

As I wrote the pattern I was thinking to attach the thread to the end finding and begin from there with a split ring. Planning to have a lots of beads on this I had first placed beads on the thread from both shuttles. A shorter or more oval split ring followed then another regular split ring. Using both shuttles to throw off the rings of the flower in the center, the pattern repeats on the other side. To make the bracelet longer, add another flower or a couple more split rings on either side.
If you complete a bracelet, please submit it to share with all of us. I wild be happy to publish it here on tatting@BellaOnline.com and add it to the Online Tatting Class project page as well.
