As mentioned in my previous article, developing a free armswing is the first component in increasing your ball speed. The modern sport of bowling demands that if you're going to score high consistently, you must develop a free armswing in order to release the ball smoothly on the lane.

BARNES, JONES, KULICK TO REPRESENT U.S. IN WTBA WORLD SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS
Team USA members Chris Barnes, Tommy Jones and Kelly Kulick, along with former PBA Womenfs Series competitor Shannon OfKeefe, are representing the United States in the inaugural World Tenpin Bowling Association World Singles Championships which get underway today at Galactica Bowling Center in Limossol, Cyprus. The event concludes on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
International PBA Tour competitors who are bowling for their home countries in the event include: Canadafs Dan MacLelland, Colombiafs Andres Gomez, Englandfs Stuart Williams and Finlandfs Osku Palermaa.
The WTBA singles event will include two six-game qualifying blocks for all players with the top 24 men and top 24 women advancing to the best-of-five-game single-elimination match-play Sept. 24-25. The top eight qualifiers receive one bye. The final two survivors in each division will battle for the gold and silver medals on Sept. 26 (semifinal round losers will each receive bronze medals).
PBA REGIONAL ROUNDUP: BOHR CONTINUES TO TEAR UP SOUTHWEST REGION
Nathan Bohr of Derby, Kan., continues to tear up the PBA Southwest Region. On Sunday, Bohr defeated Wichita State University bowler Francois Lavoie of Wichita, Kan., 238-215, to win his third consecutive PBA Southwest title in the 10th annual Fort Smith Open presented by Storm at Bowling World on Fort Smith, Ark.
In addition to his 15th career PBA Regional title and his fourth win since June, Bohr earned $3,000. Lavoie, a member of Team Canadafs national junior and adult teams, earned $1,750 as runner-up.
œ Rounding out a limited weekend of regional competition, Kip Roberts of Glen Allen, Va., defeated Lee Vanderhoef of Greenville, S.C., 279-204, to win the PBA South Regionfs Red Zone Lounge Open at Thunder Alley in Covington, Va., on Sunday. The title was Robertsf first of the year and the 14th PBA Regional title of his career. He earned $2,000 along with his title.
The Sept. 21-23 schedule features the Southwest Regionfs Odessa (Texas) Challenge for non-champions at Astro Bowl; the Central and Midwest Regionsf joint Mel Westrich Senior Open at Delphos (Ohio) Recreation Center; the South Region Victory Lanes Senior Open in Mooresville, N.C., and the Northwest/West Regionsf Ten Down Lanes Open presented by Track in Roseburg, Ore.
Closing out the month, the Sept. 29-30 schedule features the West/Northwest Regionsf Sands Regency Casino Open and non-champions events at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno; the Central, East and South Regions will combine for the Roger Boone Memorial Senior Classic presented by Fritzfs Pharmacy at Greenbreier Bowling Center in Lewisburg, W.Va.; and the Midwest Region will host standard and senior St. Clair Bowl events sponsored by Allstate Insurance in Fairview Heights, Ill.

WATCH PBA WEST/NORTHWEST REGION SANDS REGENCY CASINO OPEN ON XTRA FRAME
PBAfs online bowling channel, Xtra Frame, will return to the National Bowling Stadium in Reno to provide live coverage of the PBA West/Northwest Region Sands Regency Casino Open presented by Roto Grip Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-30. Coverage begins Friday at 10 a.m. with the non-champions event and continues with qualifying at 1 p.m. Saturday followed by the round-robin match play finals starting at 9 a.m. Sunday (all times are Pacific).
