Selichot Prayers of Forgiveness
On the Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah, Ashkenazic Jews begin to recite selichot, prayers of forgiveness in preparation for the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Sephardic Jews customarily begin reciting selichot on the 2nd day of Elul and continue to do so until Yom Kippur.
