Italian Food

September 6 2006 Italian Food Newsletter

Ciao!

A few weeks ago I was attempting to save many of my herbs that are growing, growing, growing. This amazed my husband because I've never been successful at growing ANYTHING. Whenever I've used fresh herbs it's because I purchased them.

I spent the afternoon making basil pesto, parsley pest, and a great sage and blue cheese pest (recipe coming soon). These were placed in my freezer for the winter months. I also preserved basil leaves whole by washing and drying the leaves, then layering them on plastic wrap. I rolled the wrap and placed that in a resealable freezer bag. They won't be pretty when I take them out of the freezer, but the basil leaves will add pizzazz and fresh flavor to almost any dish.
