My younger son is now a teenager, and we recently celebrated his birthday with 11 friends, 5 family members, and 7 pizzas. I'm feeling nostalgic for the old days, but also content in the knowledge that he is happy and doing what he wants to be doing. His part time college experiences have been so successful that he is considering full time enrollment sooner than we expected, and my husband and I are running to play catch up with college planning. What's the best option for long term, vs. now, as a young student who lives at home? Sometimes I feel overwhelmed at all the decisions we have to make, and envious of the parents whose children don't stray far from the traditional path. But then I remember all the cool stuff we'd be missing if we never took any detours, and I am glad that we have the freedom to wander.
