Quilting

July 8 2010 Quilting Newsletter

Wow, did that week fly by or what? A very fast paced week has flown by for me, with lots going on. On Monday we had our second gathering of the Sunshine Linus group at the Patchwork Angel. Standing room only again, but what a buzz! We had groups of quilters sewing labels and bindings, some machine sewing bindings together, some industrious ironers, kit makers, and so many more busy generous ladies spending their morning doing for others. It’s a great atmosphere to be amongst, I can thoroughly recommend it!

Then Wednesday I spent a lovely few hours with a new group of friends on an outing to lunch first, then to see the art of one William Robinson, an Australian artist, and more importantly a Queensland artist who is celebrated both here and overseas for his imaginative art, that simply takes your breath away! Here’s a link to see some of his work: http://www.ogh.qut.edu.au/wrgallery/exhibitions/current.jsp

I particularly loved the animal portraits. The one titled Family Portrait (Formal) is a particular favourite, with the wry look that only a cow can give. One never knows what these animals are thinking when they’re looking at us humans!!

Last Sunday I posted another “freebies” article, this time Musical Block and Quilt patterns that I have sourced from the web. There’s not a lot out there, I must say, but I managed to get a good clutch of sites together. Here’s the link: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art1122.asp

The forum has been quiet lately, so I’m going to get things moving by stating a new thread – this time I’m going to be asking readers who their favourite quilter is, and why. Should be interesting.
