January 14 2008 Spanish Culture Newsletter

A Happy New Year greeting seems a little late now that we're practically half-way through January, but I do hope that your Resolutions and wishes for 2008 some to fruition.

This is the latest article from the Spanish Culture site at

Death’s Other Kingdom – A Spanish Village in 1936 by Gamel Woolsey.

A book review of Death’s Other Kingdom - an eye-witness account of life on the brink of the Spanish Civil War by American Gamel Woolsey, poet and wife of writer Gerald Brenan who lived in Spain at the time of the growing unrest.

I personally thoroughly enjoyed this book, a rare treat to find a women's view of the times.
