African Culture

August 15 2013 African Culture Newsletter

Hi everyone,

I love stories! Myths, legends and fairy tales are an expression of a culture. They give us an insight into history, tradition and cultural identity. They adapt and change though time and relocation. The farcical theatre often teaches a lesson, but most importantly they are fun!

Here's your latest article from the African Culture site at BellaOnline.com..,a fairy story fom West Africa.

Anansi and the Chameleon
It is believed that the stories of Anansi originated in West Africa and most probably in Ghana. The stories then spread to the Caribbean with the Atlantic Slave Trade and eventually to the United States. The oral tradition has allowed the stories of Anansi to take on many adaptations.
