Over 400 years ago, the first attempt to establish a colony in the new land became a struggle and eventually the most mysterious and hauntingly sad legend in American history.

Under the auspices of Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Walter Raleigh was granted a charter, in March of 1584, to colonize the new land the Queen had named Virginia.
