The Quilts of Gee's Bend

I was delighted to see that the Quilts of Gee's Bend are now found on the 39 cent U.S. postage stamp.
African-American quilters from Southern Alabama made these works of art that have become "American Treasures." By implementing scraps of fabric from everyday life, the character of the people from this isolated location is expressed fully in bright colors and geometric patterns.
I have written an article "Textiles in Art" where I discuss the Quilts of Gee's Bend as well as other examples of how fabric can successfully be used in art. Click on the link below or copy and paste.
