Art Appreciation

May 29 2008 Art Appreciation Newsletter

I found it interesting how many people confuse Memorial Day with Veteran's Day. Both days honor veterans from all wars but Memorial Day is for those who have died.

I recently visited Washington D.C. and saw both the Vietnam Memorial and the World War II Memorial. The Vietnam Memorial is a stark black wall with the names of those who died. You cannot help but be emotionally moved by the experience. I found myself touching a name and feeling some kind of a bond with the person.

The World War II Memorial was enormous in its scope, recognizing Europe and the Pacific as the battlegrounds, with all the US states represented.
