Hiking & Backpacking

October 26 2006 Hiking & Backpacking Newsletter

The leaves are turning deep red and gold right now in Seattle. It's pretty amazing. I lived in the American Southwest and California for so long that I forgot how profound the fall colors can get. With the colors, comes also the typical Pac Northwest rains. Everything is moody as all get out - not a bad thing. The rains do make the sunny days so very clean, which is also a great benefit. If your leaves are not done changing in your area, remember to get out there and kick the leaves around, smell the duff and absorb the beauty.

In the meantime (and on a completely unrelated note), if you are planning a backpacking trip, you'll want to put lots of tortillas on your pack list:

Backpack Cooking - Trail Uses for Tortillas
Regular old grocery-store tortillas are one of the most versatile camping foods available. Not only can you find "torts" everywhere, but they travel well, hold everything, and even double as a plate on the trail.
