January 11 2012 Indian Culture Newsletter

Greetings!

The New Year is a time to set goals and work towards them. I am sure you have been working on your personal and professional goals. I have set a few goals for our Indian Culture site and I hope to add in fun quizzes, an educational course and come out with an ebook to help understand Indian Culture in depth. Is there anything more you would like to see in the Indian Culture site? Write to me and I will work on including content you love.

I have put up a fun contest on the forum. Take a minute to check out how you can win a free download of Mona Parsa’s interactive iapplication for children ‘And So You Were Born’ by simply guessing the monuments in the picture. Log on to the Indian Culture Forum to know more. Here’s the link for you.

Guess the monuments contest

Did I keep you guessing this week’s tit bit on Indian Culture? Well, not any more. This week let’s take a look at the brightly colored, geometric patterns that adorn the floors of Indian homes. Rangoli or Kolam is a dotted design created on doorsteps and courtyards and is akin to Indian culture. Besides displaying the creativity of Indian women, these decorative patterns have been a crucial link with India’s heritage. Here’s the link to learn more about this customary Indian art.
