India has a rich literary history and some of the languages spoken in the country are more than 1000 years old. These antique languages are accompanied by volumes of ancient texts and manuscripts that are invaluable aids in understanding the traditions and culture of India. These ancient languages, though not used in their original form now have been given the status ‘Classical Indian Languages’.
