November 5 2008 Polish Culture Newsletter
Dear Friends,
This week I am writing about the topic that is still fiercely discussed in Poland, that is Communism. Although the times have changed and life in Poland is much different than even 20 years ago, people still assess the others attitudes towards the regime. More and more often new information is revealed on who cooperated with the communistic government, there are different opinions on who fought the regime. But I wanted to present you an attitude of ordinary Poles that each day faced the reality that Communism prepared for them.
To share my personal opinion about this period of Polish history, I can only say that laughter indeed was the best weapon that Poles had. Although I was a child when Communism in Poland ended, I have still vivid memories of situations that seem to be absurd now. You are mostly welcome to get your own opinion about the matter, by reading this weeks article featured on BellaOnline:
Communism, something to laugh about?
The period of Communism in Poland brings various bitter memories and unsolved issues. But many people associate it with the best Polish comedies and satire that laughed at the absurd of everyday life that ordinary citizens had to face.
