January 6 2010 Romance Novels Newsletter

Hello, and welcome back! Things here are finally beginning to settle down again, which makes me very happy. Plus it looks like we might actually get some winter this year, which is also terrific.

If your life has been wild and crazy the last two months, too, you may not have had time to stop by the main site recently, so you've missed out on some recent reviews. Like Skin Game, A Creed Country Christmas, Possess Me at Midnight, The Lost, Storm of Passion, Untraceable, and Our Little Secret. The January reviews will start going up later this week, now that work has calmed down somewhat and I can breathe again.

If you never have, you may want to do some other poking around on the site, as I list some reviews by author in the review directory, generally when I've done a number of reviews of books by a particular author. I add new categories to this listing throughout the year, depending on when I realize I have multiple reviews for authors.

You'll also notice something new at the bottom of the reviews going forward: the FTC has mandated that all reviews must list how the item was acquired. The way I get a book has never made a difference to me in how I do my reviews. There have been books over the last ten years of reviews that I've received from publishers, from authors, from publicists, and books I've purchased myself, and my feeling is that if I like a book, I'm going to tell you that no matter how I got the book. If I don't like a book, I'm going to tell you that as well. Nevertheless, the reviews are all required to list this information, so you'll notice that going forward, and I just wanted you all to know why.

If you haven't stopped by the forum lately, you should do that soon, too. I try to do monthly giveaways of ARCs there, and occasionally more than once in a month. I also have threads ongoing there for books that don't get reviews on the main site, just to list new releases for readers to be aware of, whether it's a romance I didn't like, didn't want to read, or some other genre that landed on my desk. I figure romance readers are a diverse lot, and many of you read things other than romance and might want to know about these other releases. You can also talk books with other readers in this forum as well.

For the authors among us, I just heard a rumor yesterday that Alicia Condon has left Dorchester to move to Kensington. Ms. Condon has been with Dorchester for a very, very long time, and I imagine she'd be taking over the spot of the late, great Kate Duffy, but I haven't heard details yet.

Until next time, happy reading and writing!
