Spring has been rather short here; we've had hot and humid the last few days, so I imagine summer is here instead. I hope not, as I'd rather we had more seasonable weather for a tad longer. It makes for much more pleasant outdoor reading time.
And I have been reading like a fiend again this month. I've nearly finished the April release reviews, and have already dug into the May books on my desk, starting with Kresley Cole's Dark Needs at Night's Edge (Pocket Star), the latest in her 'Immortals After Dark' series. This time, Conrad Wroth, brother to Sebastian, Nikolai, and Murdoch, has succumbed to blood lust and will have to be killed. If they can't save him. And to that end, they trap him and plan to keep him in an old bayou house that happens to be inhabited by the ghost of Neomi, the ballerina who lived and died there.
As for the April books, if you haven't stopped by the main site lately, you've missed quite a lot. Like Shadows of the Night by Lydia Joyce; Seducued by a Spy; Silent Fall, the second in Barbara Freethy's latest duo; A Stranger's Touch by Cait London, the second of her psychic triplets; Simply Perfect by Mary Balogh, and which rounds out her 'Simply' series; To Bed a Beauty; Right Here, Right Now; The Beast in Him by Shelly Laurenston; SEALed With a Kiss; Slave; Pursuit by Elizabeth Jennings; The Duke Next Door; and A Rogue's Game. I have just a couple more to post before you'll start seeing the May romances, and I'm very excited about several of those.
For those of you in Maryland, or nearby, Turn the Page Books is hosting a signing on Friday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you can make it you can have books signed by Nora Roberts, Victoria Alexander, Donna Kauffman, Sophia Nash, Kathryn Caskie, Sally MacKenzie, Gail Barrett, Karen Rose, Kresley Cole, Mary Burton, and Mariah Stewart. This should be a fantasic event.
For the writers, a few publishing tidbits. At NAL, Kerry Donovan is now an associate editor. Shauna Summers at Bantam is looking for contemporary romances. HQN is currently seeking contemporary romances, sexy historical romances, and romantic suspense. Jennifer Enderlin at St. Martin's would like sexy western historicals. And Amy Pierpont and Lucia Macro at Grand Central would like western historicals that feature real historical persons.
If you missed this year's big Romantic Times Convention in Pittsburgh, PA, you missed out on all sorts of fun, including the enormous booksigning yesterday afternoon, with hundreds of authors signing their books. But you can start planning now for next year: the convention will be held April 22 - 26, 2009 in Orlando, Florida, at the Wyndham Orlando Resort.
And, until next time, happy reading and writing!
