Travel is essential to the soul.
I read recently that a family from Foley, Alabama is saying that oil still in the waters made them sick recently. I hope that's not the case, even though that would mean the real culprit needs to be found.
The Gulf Coast of the US has had more than its share of problems over the last several years, from Hurricane Katrina to the BP oils spill. I know that some parts will never recover, but I hope they are on the way to a vast improvement. Do you live in the Gulf Coast region? How have things been for you, your families and friends?

No one has a definite answer to the origin of the Mont Julep. While bourbon is the usual choice for mint juleps today, several other types of alcohol have been used over the years. There is little doubt that it is a southern creation, probably dreamt up in the eighteenth century. Try one today.

"What is a grit?" The perennial question asked by so-called comedians looking for a laugh at the expense of a large portion of the population of the United States. If you are interested in Southern culture and cuisine, a better question to ask would be: "What are grits?" Here's the answer.
