From our recent survey have come a few more suggestions about the bare essentials of a tatting kit.
Shuttle (flat), picot gauges, and a protective container.
And if your shuttle does not have a point on it, a crochet hook is needed, too.
Regular housewife or etui style is also good for the btk.
Laurel sent in some lovely photos to share also. She wrote: "The large pink box is my go-to box - I have two smaller sizes one I keep in the office one I keep in my car."
"The go-to box has everything I would want to start a project with including cluny loom. Everything on the bottom is in plastic."
The top in all boxes are wasted space so I used acrylic to make a lid to hold my shuttles and extra stuff.
This box is my favorite I keep band aids, stickers, zip bag for scraps instructions, clip board cluny loom, beads, shuttles, scissors, pins of three kinds, thread in 'h h bubbles,' small note paper, pen, highlighter, mini tweezers, needles, pins, gauges and hooks.
And - tools, a row counter, dental pulls mold for tatted boxes, baby powder, tissues and I am adding small baby wipes package, hard candy and five dollars."
In the top of the box I used a piece of elastic to corral the shuttles I carry as they pop on and off easily.
I like this box because I do not have to look for my “stuff“ when I need it. I keep other shuttles in a cookie jar. I use a lot of 'h h bubbles' when I am finished with a color I put the shuttle in the bubble and label for future use.
The small blue box in the pictures is like the one I carry in my purse. It is a contact case for contact lenses and just perfect for the purse. And two shuttles, clippers and a piece of paper for instructions fit."
And a little girl's hair band you can use for your hair when needed but I use mine for my bobbins. They keep your thread clean and prevent unraveling. And they come in colors you can color code the thread.
Wow, I am impressed!!!
