Tatting from the Heart April 15-16, 2016
This past weekend really cheered my spirits and warmed my heart! I was privileged to teach at the Spokane Shuttlebirds Tat Days 20th Annual Workshop 2016 in Spokane Valley WA. More than 75 tatters and 10 teachers gathered together to share and learn new tatting methods and patterns. The classes are designed for all levels of experience.
Shuttlebirds defines the skill levels as:
The Advanced Beginner should knows the basics – rings, chains, picots, joins and reading patterns.
An Intermediate Tatter should know, and, is comfortable with the above, plus the use of two shuttles, split rings and split chains, and beads.
The Advanced Tatter knows and is comfortable with all of the above and is ready for more.
The famous Mimi Dillmann was present to teach cluny tatting, her forte. She offered beginning cluny tatters a bookmark while more experienced cluny tatters were challenged with a round medallion.
Here is an example of cluny tatting posted previously on BellaOnline.com:
Mimi also taught the Beanile method of beaded tatting as developed by Nina Libin whose books have been reviewed on BellaOnline.com.
Natalie Rogers shared pearl or maltese tatted earrings. Pearl or Maltese tatting is illustrated by this vintage drawing in the Mlle Riego books.
But Natalie also has developed a "card" game where the suits and numbers are tatted elements and the double stitch count! Gosh was I impressed.
And all these fascinating techniques were included:
Loop tatted rings.
Self closing mock ring.
Be sure to mark your calendar for next year: April 21-22 2017, "Flurry of Flakes."
