Today's tip:

Many companies such as DiscoverCard and Bellsouth (now AT&T) are now offering telephone options for paying bills. It may be called a "check by phone", or it may just be referred as a telephone payment.

In either case, this service is super handy when you don't have someone handy to write out a check, fill out the little form with the bill, and address the envelope.

Just be sure you have your bank routing number handy; it's nine digits, and your bank can give it to you. Write it down; it never changes. Then have your checking account number ready, and you are good to go. It's as simple as following the prompts and entering the digits on your telephone keypad; you don't even talk to a person.

One word of caution:

Some of these services are free, but others carry a charge. Listen carefully to the information and instructions so you don't get caught with an unexpected payment.

I hope to hear from you sometime soon, either in the forum or in response to this email message. I thrive on your feedback!

Have fun passing this message along to family and friends, because we all love free knowledge!
