Work & Family

November 12 2006 Work & Family Newsletter

Greetings Work and Family Members,

Everyone loves a party. They are especially lovely at holiday time. All it takes is a little organization, planning and…alright, I will go ahead and say it…a little love. My article this week is:

*Throw a Great Family Holiday Party*
Go ahead. Be brave and throw a great holiday party for your family and friends. A really great party is often a matter of the right combination of good friends, good food, relaxation and a little structure.

In case you missed it, here is the article from last week.

*Smart Holiday Shopping Within the Family Budget*
Have you started your holiday shopping? I know somewhat who actually starts the day after Christmas. If this is not you, and you are just now starting to think about gift buying, and the strain it puts on your family budget, decide right now to become a smart shopper and stay within your budget.

Visit for more content. In addition, to participate in online discussions, the Work & Family site has a community forum. Our question continues to be “Who do you discuss important matters with, spouse/partner, a family member or best friend(s)?”

*A Lighter Moment*
A few things mommy’s never-ever say:
“Mmm. Yeh, that seems right. Well, if Jake’s mom says it’s OK, it’s fine with me.”
“Go on out in your shirt sleeves, I’m sure the wind-chill factor will improve.”
“Here, let me smell that shirt. Yep, it’s good for another week.”
“Sure, it’s O.K. to keep the stray dog. It will be my pleasure to feed and walk him every day.”

As always, feel free to send this and other Work & Family articles to family and friends.

Be careful, be safe,

Vannie Ryanes, Work & Family Editor

The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another’s desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together. —Erma Bombeck
