HDL Cholesterol Raising Food List

HDL cholesterol is the type of cholesterol that you want to be high. You are aiming for over 60 mg/dL of HDL. How can you raise that value?

Lose Weight
OK, this is the whole point of low carb dieting of course. Numerous studies have shown that people who lose weight naturally have their HDL levels rise. Focus on your diet plans and exercise, to help your weight loss go as smoothly as possible.

Avoid Carbs
Another no-brainer! Studies show that when your body gets the sugar spike from carbs, the HDL lowers as a result. The more that you stick with the low carb diet, the better your chances are.

Red Wine / Antioxidants
Antioxidants and red wine have been shown to have lovely results on HDL levels. You should drink in moderation of course, but if you already drink wine, know that it's giving you a hand.

Fish / Omega 3 Fatty Acids
We've all heard how wonderful omega-3s are for us. This is definitely a key item to have in your diet. Fish oil supplements are OK, but not nearly as potent as actually eating the real thing :)

Olive Oil
Olive oil has been shown to have many health benefits. One of them involves HDL. If you have a salad each day with oil and vinegar for the dressing, you'll be all set!

Avoid Trans-Fatty Acids
You should be doing this anyway!! These bad fats are found in many fried foods and even in many cookies and crackers. Check the nutrition labels on your food and keep away from these.
