Definition of a Joint

A joint is the place where 2 bones meet. The shoulder joint is an example of a joint. The shoulder joint is the meeting of the humerus, or upper arm bone into the glenoid fossa, in the shoulder blade. There are several types of joints, ranging from seemingly immovable to freely moveable. The shoulder joint is freely moveable and is classified as a ball-and-socket joint.
